ENERGY & BODYWORK
Marma Therapy
Marma therapy is an ancient Indian practice whose focus is the manipulation of vital energy (prana) in the body to support health and assist healing processes. India is not the only country that has a long history of bodywork. Bali has been home to skilled bodywork healers for many generations, and prana therapies such as Marma therapy can now be accessed at select private rehabs in Bali.
Marma therapy is based on the use of 108 Marma points in the body, seen as junctions of consciousness and matter. A knowledge of Marma allows the practitioner to influence the flow of prana through both the coarse and subtle bodies in order to restore the patient’s health and serenity.
Marma therapy consists of a gentle stimulation of these energy points through whole body massage with natural oils. Essential oils can also restore energy and promote mental and physical relaxation.
Marma therapy involves no massage in the normal sense of muscle manipulation, rather it is a conscious, systematic stimulation of those points that the practitioner deems necessary. The treatment can be combined with various massage techniques which are compatible.
Theta healing
Theta healing is a therapy technique that focuses on thought and prayer. The principle behind it is that we can access the healing wisdom of the Creator of All that Is – whether we see this as a Divine Being or simply Mother Nature – when the brain wave cycle is changed to predominantly Theta waves. This is a meditative state, which the Theta healer helps the recipient of the healing activate, and intuition is used as the channel that provides higher guidance in achieving physical and emotional healing.
Theta healing is considered a form of energy healing, and is not only compatible with, but also a great supplement to conventional medicine. Improvements in many ailments can be felt almost immediately, since in Theta meditation, the functions of the body harmonize and a deep sense of peace and stillness is felt.
REIKI
Reiki is a Japanese form of healing that reduces stress and promotes relaxation. One of the greatest benefits of Reiki healing is this capacity to alleviate stress, as this supports the body’s natural healing abilities. Reiki healing is a natural therapy that gently balances life energies and brings health and vitality to the recipient. It assists in natural healing and supports emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. It is also shown to induce states of deep relaxation, help people cope with difficulties, assist in burnout treatment, relieve emotional tension, and improve overall wellness.
At the practitioner’s hand placements you may feel a very slight tingling, heat, energy, or nothing at all. The sensations, or lack of, are not a barometer of the Reiki’s efficiency, but simply how your body senses energy. You may feel peaceful and calm in your mind, or experience a general feeling of physically letting go.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is a collective term that covers various techniques and types of massage, all of which are designed to provide relief from a number of physical conditions. Massage therapists apply pressure to knead, rub, and tap layers of the muscle using their fingers, hands, forearms, elbows, and even feet to release built-up tension and relieve pain.
The benefits of massage therapy far exceed simple relaxation; they are also proven to provide relief from certain medical conditions, and research has shown that massage therapy offers benefits for such common complaints as chronic pain from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia.
Myofascial Release
This practice focuses on the release of the fascia, or the connective tissue in the body where we are said to store trauma and other stagnant energy. This safe and effective hands-on technique can help reduce pain and tension, and restore motion in the body.
Therapeutic breathwork for trauma
Breath work refers to any type of breathing exercise or technique. People often practice it to improve mental or physical well-being.
Breath work involves intentionally changing one’s breathing pattern, and breathing in a conscious and systematic way. Breath work is used to help improve a wide range of issues including anger management, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, the emotional effects of illness, grief, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
There are several breath work approaches. You may want to try a few different ones over time to see which resonate the most with you and produce results. Examples of breathwork include shamanic breath work, vivation, transformational breath, holotropic breathwork, clarity breathwork, and rebirthing, to mention just a few.
Balian (Balinese Usadha)
Balinese traditional healing practices use natural herbs and spices, holistic therapies and ancient wisdom to cure physical and mental illness. Traditional healing modalities are prominent in Balinese culture today, and include natural herbal remedies, energy work and body work. Bali locals live equally in two worlds: the seen or conscious world and the unseen or psychic world. In traditional Balinese healing, both dimensions are addressed in order to fully heal a patient. Traditional Balinese healers (Balian) play an important part in Balinese culture and help the patient restore balance in both worlds.
Sensory deprivation
A sensory deprivation tank, also called an isolation tank or floatation tank, is used for restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST). It is a dark, soundproof tank that is filled with a foot or less of salt water.
The water in a sensory deprivation tank is kept at skin temperature and nearly saturated with Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate), providing extra buoyancy.
Participants enter the tank naked and are cut off from all outside stimulation, including sound, sight, and gravity when the tank’s lid or door is closed. As you float weightless in the silence and darkness, the brain is able to enter into a deeply relaxed state.
Sensory deprivation tank therapy is said to produce a number of effects on the brain, ranging from hallucinations to enhanced creativity. It has been found to be effective in reducing anxiety and chronic pain, and may improve a range of other physical ailments.
