BALINESE CULTURAL
EXPERIENCES
USADA
At PRANA BALI, we believe that taking part in the spiritual and cultural life of the island plays an important role in recovery and change, as well in personal growth.
The term Usada is the Balinese equivalent of Ayurveda, traditional medicine for body, mind and spirit. In the Ubud area in particular, ancient wisdom continues to be handed down to this day, through mediums such as art, dance, music and ceremonial rituals, all of which carry great transformational power.
Our sister company, USADA BALI, offers a range of exclusive and individual experiences that present unique opportunities to get a taste of the rich spiritual life of the Balinese, and to gain insights into the Balinese spirit. Our programs invite you to discover an island of astonishing beauty, diversity and complexity. Immerse yourself in rituals handed down over generations, learn about indigenous customs and the traditional way of life, or be captivated by Bali’s most accomplished performers in the traditional arts. Treat your mind, body and your senses to unforgettable moments in time, accompanied and guided by local Balinese experts in their field.
MELUKAT
One of the prana therapies available in Bali. This water purification ceremony deeply heals at a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Can be experienced as part of a group or as a one on one experience. Water temples with sacred springs are dotted all over the island of Bali and revered by local communities who visit them regularly throughout their lives. Their waters have restorative virtues and therapeutic benefits, on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.
A pemangku, or Balinese priest, guides and conducts the rituals and participants receive blessings before proceeding to the melukat, or water purification rite. The ritual begins with a time to make offerings and pray, before an invigorating bath in the gushing, sacred waters of the temple grounds.
The priest will explain some basic tenets of Balinese traditional wisdom, the purpose behind the rituals and the significance of the offerings made to the temple and the Gods. These ceremonies leave people feeling cleansed in body and spirit, in tune with their surroundings and nature, and a little more knowledgeable about Balinese beliefs and practices.
Unlike tourist visits to healing and holy springs, with Usada the priest guides participants throughout the entire process, and provides explanations and the opportunity to ask questions.
ART THERAPY
Art therapy uses art materials and the creative process to explore emotions, reduce anxiety, increase self-esteem, help resolve psychological issues and generally improve mental health. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for individuals who have experienced depression, trauma, medical illness, and social difficulties. Making art in therapy can be a way to achieve personal insight as well as healing. Art therapists offer sessions tailored to your needs, and offer you a choice of materials with which to engage and express yourself.
